Kaalanilai Privacy Policy
App: Kaalanilai (காலநிலை) · Package: in.zevoratech.kaalanilai · Developer: ZevoraTech, Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, India
Last updated: 25 October 2026
In short
Kaalanilai is a free weather, rain and estimated air quality app for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools. We do not collect your name, phone number, email address or any other personal details, and we do not sell or share any personal data.
1. Location
The app can use your approximate location to pick the nearest place from its built-in list. This happens only when you tap Use my location, or, if you have turned on automatic mode, when you open the app or return to it after a while. It is optional: you can always search for and choose a place by hand.
- The app asks only for approximate (coarse) location. It does not ask for precise location, background location or location while the app is closed.
- Your location is read once each time, matched to the nearest place on your phone, and then not kept. Your coordinates are never sent to us or to any server. Only the name or ID of the chosen place (for example, a town) is requested from our server to get its forecast.
- We never track your movements or build a location history.
- You can say no to the permission and keep using the app, or withdraw it at any time in Android Settings > Apps > Kaalanilai > Permissions.
2. Information stored on your phone
To work smoothly, the app keeps a few things in its own private storage on your device: your chosen place, your favourite places, your language choice, your light/dark appearance choice, your automatic-mode setting, and the most recently loaded forecasts (so something is shown if you are offline). If you use the optional weather alerts, your alert settings and a short list of alerts already shown (so the same one is not repeated) are kept there too. This stays on your phone. Removing the app deletes it all.
3. Internet use and our server
The app connects to the internet only to download weather, rain and air quality data. It talks to our own service (hosted on Cloudflare), which collects public forecast data from Open-Meteo and passes it on. Your phone does not contact Open-Meteo directly. The only thing a request carries is the ID of the place whose forecast is wanted.
As with any internet service, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) handles standard technical information needed to deliver a response, such as your device's IP address. We do not use this to identify you, and we do not link it to any profile, because we do not keep one.
4. Optional features: alerts, widget, read-aloud, sea conditions
- Weather alerts (off by default). If you turn them on, Android asks for permission to show notifications. About once an hour or so, the phone may wake the app in the background to ask our service for the forecast of the places you picked, and shows a notification on the phone if rain, heavy rain or heat looks possible. Only the place IDs are sent, exactly as when you open the app. Besides rain, heavy rain and heat, you can choose alerts for poor air quality, heavy rain expected tomorrow, and a good-morning summary. "My location" for alerts and the widget means the place the app last found when you opened it: the app still never reads your location in the background. The alerts are worked out on your phone. We use no push-notification service, no Firebase and no device token, and we keep no list of who turned alerts on. You can turn alerts off in the app or in Android settings at any time.
- Home-screen widget. If you add one (weather widgets in several sizes, a rain widget, and a digital or analog clock widget with weather), it shows a place you choose in the app (the place you last opened, a favourite, or "my location") and refreshes by asking our service for that place's forecast; only the place ID is sent, as in the app. The clock itself is drawn by Android and needs no internet. The choice and colour are kept on your phone.
- Read aloud. Uses your phone's own text-to-speech. The text is not sent anywhere by the app.
- Sea conditions. For coastal places, the app asks our service for wave height at the open sea near that place. Only the place ID is sent. It is a model estimate, not an official warning.
5. What the app does not do
- No accounts, sign-in or registration.
- No advertisements and no advertising ID.
- No analytics, crash-tracking or behaviour-tracking libraries.
- No access to your contacts, messages, photos, files, camera, microphone or call history.
- No push-notification service or device token: alerts, if you turn them on, are made on your phone.
- No sale, rental or sharing of personal data with anyone.
6. Sharing and links
The Share button creates a short text summary of the forecast and hands it to the Android share sheet. It is sent only if and where you choose. Links in the About screen (for example, our website or data sources) open in your browser, where the other site's own privacy policy applies.
7. Data sources
Weather data: Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0). Air quality: CAMS ENSEMBLE data, provided via Open-Meteo. Place names: Local Government Directory (LGD), Government of India; Puducherry and Karaikal village list: Government of Puducherry. Place coordinates: GeoNames (geonames.org), CC BY 4.0. Air quality values are estimates and forecasts can change; for official warnings, please check the India Meteorological Department.
8. Children
Kaalanilai is a general weather app. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because the app collects no personal data, there is nothing to remove for any user.
9. Your choices and deleting your data
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is no account to delete. You can turn off location permission, turn off automatic mode, remove favourites in the app, clear the app's storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything stored on your phone.
10. Changes to this policy
If the app starts doing anything new with data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches you. Other ZevoraTech apps have their own separate policies.
